Poznań Agglomeration Strategy

Mr. Marek Bańczyk was invited to cooperate in defining the Poznań Agglomeration Strategy. The project is coordinated by the Centre for Metropolitan Studies under the supervision of Prof. Tomasz Kaczmarek.

Agglomeration Academy – 1st meeting

On the 10th September 2009 an inauguratory meeting of „Agglomeration Academy”, a part of the project „Functioning and development directions of Poznań agglomeration”, was held. Representatives of 13 municipalities from the Poznań urban agglomeration were present, including Mr. Tomasz Łęcki - mayor of Murowana Goślina and head of Poznań Agglomeration Council; Mr. Bartosz Derech – Mayor of Rokietnica, Mr. Adam Lewandowski – Mayor of Śrem and Mr. Adam Habryło – Poznań Poviat’s Secretary. Numerous representatives of public administration, from city and municpalities’ councils, who cooperate with the Metropolitan Research Centre in co-creating the Strategy of Poznań Agglomeration Development also attended the meeting. Dean of Geographic and Geological Sciences Department at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań - Prof. dr hab. Marek Marciniak welcomed all the attending guests. Prof. dr hab. Tomasz Kaczmarek, director of Centre of Metropolitan Studies, laid out the background of the research project: “Functioning and directions of Poznań agglomeration development” and explained the nature and purpose of the “Agglomeration Academy”. The presentation part of the meeting was initiated by mgr Marek Bańczyk from Poznań University of Economics who presented main thesis of his research on “Poznań agglomeration against globalisation and metropolisation processes”. Foreign experience in creating cities and metropolitan areas’ strategies were put forward as next. Mr Krzysztof Wachowiak presented metropolitan area of Helsinki, dr Łukasz Mikuła spoke about Manchester, mgr Michał Wójciki about Stuttgart. Dr Monika Matusiak discussed Barcelona metropolitan area and gave a recap of foreign experiences. After the coffee break Prof. dr hab. Jacek Nowak presented ways of approaching the Strategy of Poznań Agglomeration Development. The last part of the meeting was devoted to the discussion on the project “Functioning and directions of Poznań agglomeration development” and also on the strategy. In the discussion participated Mr. Tomasz Łęcki, mayor of Murowana Goślina and Mr. Marcin Lis, Swarzędz councillor.
